Give These 10 Relationship Builder Games A Try Today

One of the best ways to strengthen the bond between you and your partner is through relationship builder games.

Why? Because they help you get into communicating with one another straight away. You might be talking with your significant other a lot during a day, but are you actually saying valuable things?

Sometimes, you talk with one another just to share information: “when are you coming home?”; “did  you pay the bills?”; “are you picking up the kids from school today?”. While useful, these types of conversations can make you drift apart in time.

Talking with your partner (really talking) should make you feel an emotional connection.

It should make you think that there’s this other person who really gets and understands you. A person who makes you laugh, brings you up when you’re down, whose passions and dedication are admirable.

When you have a deep romantic bond, nurturing it further and further can only make you happier.

Likewise, there are many activities you can do together that’ll make the two of you closer, that’ll create a sense of shared experiences and passions.

What’s more, if you don’t take the time and put in the effort to sustain your relationship, it’ll slowly wither away.

So, don’t let that happen to you! Keeping the spark alive isn’t a daunting task, you just need to have a little willpower for it. Besides, it takes two to tango, so you won’t be putting in all the effort.

Block 15-20 minutes a day together with your partner, and get into one of the games below.

The Best Relationship Builder Games Available Today

You have a few options when thinking about which relationship game to play with your partner. What’s important to remember is that you’re not preparing for a chore or an interview.

A quality relationship doesn’t have to feel like a job. If you think it’s actively draining to maintain a happy couple life, perhaps it’s time to reconsider your relationship status at that point.

These relationship games are for when you have real affection, respect or love for your partner, but it feels like you aren’t as connected anymore.

It’s for when you want to do more things together and learn new things about each other, but the idea itself seems challenging.

Another important thing is to remember to have fun! Aside from being your romantic partner, your significant other is (or should be) your friend.

And what is a friend if not someone with whom you can have loads of quality time together? Here are our activity suggestions:

  • Romantic scavenger hunt
  • Yes or no drinking roulette
  • Scrabble with a twist
  • Two truths and a lie
  • This or that
  • Quizzing together
  • Twenty questions
  • One word answer
  • Karaoke
  • Better Topics

Questions Games for Couples

When you want to just sit down and have a relaxing conversation with your partner, you can try the following:

1. Two truths and a lie

As straightforward as the name gets. Taking turns, you each say 3 sentences. 2 of them will be true, while 1 of them will be a lie. Your partner has to analyze each sentence and determine which is the lie.

This is a great way for the two of you to “test” your knowledge of one another, and learn new things in the process. Don’t worry if you won’t always guess correctly; learning something you weren’t expecting is part of the fun!

2. “This or that”

An especially amazing game for new couples. You name 2 things (whatever you want, but they must be connected to one another in some way), and your partner chooses one of them.

You can also try a version where you guess what they’re going to say before picking an option too.

Here are a few examples: “cold or warm weather?”; “cats or dogs?”; “ice cream or cake?”; “Italian or Asian food?” etc. You can choose literally any subject in the world; if you’re already in a long-term relationship, now’s your chance to get creative!

3. Twenty questions

This is a classic and we’re willing to bet you’ve played it at least once when you were a kid. If you need a swift refresher course, it boils down to this: you tell your partner to think about anything and tell you the subject/category it fits in.

Then, you get to ask 20 questions to which the only answers can be “yes” or “no”. After you use up all of your 20 questions (you can ask whatever you want that can be answered with “yes” or “no”), you have to guess who or what your partner is thinking about.

It’s a great opportunity to see how well you know each other.

4. One word answer

A game that’s more of a concept that you can turn into a variety of games. For example, you can work together as a team to build up to a sentence. Taking turns, you each say a word that makes sense after the previous one.

The first word is of course an exception. After a few turns, you’ll have a sentence that tested your creativity and thought patterns! You can use this game to tell your love story, reminisce about times past, joke around, or anything else!

You can also use the concept as a way to convey your feelings or thoughts in a very concise and direct manner. Oftentimes, the first reply we want to give to a question is the unfiltered truth that represents our opinions best.

Ask your partner something and have them reply with the very first thing that pops in their mind. They’ll then do the same.

After an answer is given, you can take it from there and discuss as much or as little as you want about why they’re feeling that way, or what made them say that. It’s an easy and approachable way to start a valuable conversation.

Activity Games for Couples

Up for a little challenge? These next few games can help you build a healthier and happier relationship with your partner through some fun & engaging activities.

5. Romantic scavenger hunts

A great opportunity to let your partner know how much you love them instead of telling them. The rules are the same as for regular scavenger hunts.

You create a list of clues, and each new finding is a clue in itself for the next step of the hunt. You can start by leaving your S.O. a note under their pillow, or somewhere you know they look daily.

The “trail” can be made of sweets, romantic messages, poems, or memorabilia connected to your relationship. The “treasure” at the end should be something of significance for your partner.

You’re going with deeds over words here, so make it count!

6. A drinking roulette

This might sound like a party game, and well, that’s because it is. However, it can be customized for a romantic setting for newer couples.

Grab 2 glasses of wine, prepare a nice candle-lit environment, and start talking. Take turns saying a statement that you consider true about your partner.

If they answer “yes”, they take a drink! If the answer is “no”, you take a drink. It’s a nice way of getting closer to one another. After a few glasses, who knows where the night could take you…?

7. Scrabble

An all-time favorite for lots of game nights with friends, but it can be played in 2 just fine. Because of its versatility, you can make your own rules.

For example, only romantic words can be accepted, or words that relate to the two of you in some way. Experiment with ideas and make the game your own.

8. Quizzes

They can be found all over the internet, and the themes are as versatile as your imagination will take you. Search some up together and see what the results are.

You can even do a couple’s quiz together, and see where you fit into the available categories. It’s a fun way of finding out something that maybe you weren’t expecting.

There are a lot of pop culture quizzes available too. See how similar you are to your favorite Games of Thrones character, or if you and your S.O. are in the same Hogwarts house!

9. Karaoke

Let loose and have plain old fun! You can easily find a homeset with 2 microphones and enjoy a great evening with your partner.

Even if you don’t have the best singing voice, leave that shame at home (or you know, somewhere else if you’re already home) and unleash your inner artist.

You can sing a nice romantic song together, or something with more energy. Just pick something you both like and create some fond memories together.

10. The Best Relationship Builder Game Overall

If you’re looking for the best way to consistently grow your relationship in a fun & interactive way, we’ve got just the game for you!

Better Topics is a replayable relationship builder game that helps you start meaningful conversations with your partner.

  • Do you feel you’re drifting apart? Better Topics will help!
  • Nothing left to talk about in your relationship? Better Topics is the solution!
  • Are important discussions difficult to start? Better Topics is here for you!

The greatest part about the game is that you can play in 2 different ways. The mobile app is free to download, and if you’re a fan of card games, our physical base deck is affordable too!

The game comes packed with 120 replayable questions that should be a part of every healthy relationship.

For even more quality conversations and hours of fun, there are many extension decks for you to choose from (physical ones and within the mobile app too).

How do you play?

There are some differences between the 2 versions, but the gist is the same: one partner plays a question card, and the other one answers as best as they can.

If you want more details from an answer, you can use Modifier cards such as “Why?”, “With whom?”, “One more detail”, etc. Of course, the discussion can also flow freely.

Better Topics gives you a helpful nudge towards starting meaningful talks, and you don’t have to respect all rules to the letter.

If a question is particularly interesting for the two of you, go ahead and break it down to its tiniest detail!

The more you play, the more you talk, the more you grow in every way!

The first player with no more cards in their hands “wins”, and gets to draw from the Rewards pile. The other partner then has to reward them with what’s on the card. Maybe it’s breakfast in bed, maybe it’s something even better!

The mobile app (both iOS and Android) also rewards you with BT Points for answering questions, with which you can get more modifier cards, extensions decks, and others!

There are Rewards cards too, but they’re given after a different logic (explained within the app)

The app also has a “weekly challenge” feature, where both you and your partner receive a secret task to make each other’s day brighter.

So, what are you waiting for? Get Better Topics today and reach a new milestone in your relationship tomorrow!
