3 Social Distancing Date Ideas in the Age of Coronavirus

If you’re looking for social distancing date ideas, you’ve come to the right place.

Dating has never been the easiest of concepts when you try to pull it off right. That first date especially can be a real nerve wrecker. What do you wear, where do you go, what do you talk about if you both fall silent? If you’re going to a restaurant or a movie, things just get more complicated, as you can’t be sure yet which pick will be the best, and perhaps even impress most! Another potentially annoying thing is that currently, and for the past 2 months at that, we’ve had to throw out everything we at least sort of knew about dating out the window. That’s because we’re in the social distancing dating era now.

Still, amidst all the chaos that’s currently going around, even though you know you can’t meet each other for a while, you’re trying to make it work, and that’s commendable! But, how do you make it work? Well, our first piece of advice is to actually give each other some alone time every now and then. Yes, we know this sounds counterintuitive at first, but since you’re probably trying extra hard to keep in touch because of the coronavirus pandemic, you might end up suffocating each other. Being overbearing is a definite killer of romance.

So, with that out of the way, let’s get into actual things to do while spending time together.

The Classic Dinner & A Movie

You can’t go out right now, but thanks to technology, you can actually do some of the same things when dating while social distancing. You’ve definitely thought of it, and surely have a laptop or computer as well, so what are you waiting for? Dress up nicely just like you would have otherwise, and enjoy some takeout while watching a movie or your favorite series together. Free services like Discord (we know it’s not really the perfect name in this case) allow the sharing of your screen with only a few clicks, so you’re always at the same sequence!

If you’re both handy in the kitchen, take it an extra step further and have a little cookoff between each other. Winner gets all the glory! Or really just any reward you guys can think of. You can take it a step further and challenge each other to cook with certain ingredients.

Play A Game Online

Even if you’re not into more widely played online video games, there are still a ton of options out there for a social distancing date. For example, you can choose from party games like those offered by Jackbox. Those alone can keep you busy for multiple hours on end.

If you’re looking for a more unique experience, how about a virtual escape room? In short, you’re given a scenario in which the two of you are “trapped”, and must use teamwork and puzzle solving skills to get out of that situation. And then of course, there’s the option of board games and card games!

If you’re especially into card games, we’re thrilled to let you know that we currently have an ongoing Kickstarter campaign for our own, Better Topics. It’s actually a game specifically for people in relationships, and it helps strengthen the bond between the two of you by encouraging the flow of honest, open communication. Why not give it a look?

Drink Some Wine And Just Talk

When’s the last time the two of you just talked, no other activities involved? If nothing else, this quarantine is the perfect time to do this. We’re sure you actually have tons of things to talk about. Who is someone that you really admire, but haven’t talked with your partner about them yet? What’s one thing you guys want to improve about your relationship? Or if it comes down to it, who’s someone you’d really want to punch if you were able to?

Obviously, doing activities together is an essential part of being together, but just having a meaningful conversation can be a rewarding social distancing date in itself!
